Francois is a sculpting artist, specializing in Bronze and Resin sculptures. Francois most notable work are his three Long March to Freedom life-size bronze sculptures. For The Long March to Freedom Monument, Francois was commissioned to complete three sculptures, King Dingane kaSenzangakhona, Saul Msane and Jack Hodgson. The monument is a reminder of South Africa’s struggle for liberation that was fought over three centuries of colonial domination and four decades of apartheid rule. It tells the tale of the iconic leaders’ epic journey, from the first chiefs to the last activists, in The Long March to Freedom – a ground-breaking public attraction at the heart of the National Heritage Monument.
Francois is also very well know for his Bronze Bust sculptures, for loved ones tombstones. He has competed over 100 life size bust’s, including the late South African recording artist Mandoza.
No work is too big or small for Francois, such as the small desktop busts of Paul Kruger that were commissioned by The Scoin Shop, or the nine meter tall, 2,500kg Giant Aloe at Alcare Aloe in Albertinia, that took over 8,800 man hours to complete. He also does private commissions, such as a resin 2m x 1m replica of the floating Rubber Duck created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. His love for animals also produces the some of the most beautiful realistic pieces depicted in the images below.
